Position Summary:
The Director of Surgical Services is a professional nurse leader/manager responsible for the overall management of area(s) under his/her direction. Responsible for assessing, planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all nursing, administrative and related technical activities to ensure care of all patients in Surgical Services to include Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Outpatient Surgical Services. Is responsible for ensuring all departmental activities are in compliance with standards established by JCAHO, DFS, hospital bylaws, departmental regulations and institutional policy and procedures and Surgical Services Standards of Nursing Practice for patient care. Responsibilities also include performance improvement activities, human resource management, fiscal management, supply and equipment management, customer service focus as well as developing and cultivating partnership with all members of the healthcare team including physicians. The Director must be a positive role model by demonstrating professional practice and behavior, being competent in all areas under his/her direction and actively supporting mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Qualifications:
Graduate from an approved school of nursing with current licensure as a registered nurse, possesses ACLS training and membership in AORN preferred. Has knowledge of current trends and techniques in nursing appropriate to the practice setting. Ten or more years recent clinical experience in Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Outpatient Surgical Services as well as Central Processing; including at least five years management experience. They will emphasis on strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage working relationships. BSN required, MSN preferred.

Pursues programs of continuing education consistent with requirements of Granville Medical Center. Participates in educational conferences and updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to the management of areas of responsibility. Processes information on the Center's Health Information System as required in performing job responsibilities.

Surgical Services Department Summary:
Granville Health System includes a 62 bed Medical Center. Granville Medical Center is home to the Surgical Services Department which houses three operating rooms, one endoscopy room and one procedure room. There is an average of 192 cases per month or 2300 per year; cases include orthopedic, GYM, Gastrointestinal, ENT, Eye, General Surgery, and Urology. The department is staffed with approximately 30 staff members and is covered by a variety of schedule shifts including second and third shift along with on call. The call schedule for staff is one to four weeks or one to five weeks. The Surgical Services Department did well through our last JCAHO and state surveys which were two years ago.

The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, implementing, evaluating, recruiting staff, retaining staff, directing, budgeting and controlling the provision of services for the Pharmacy Department at The Medical Center of Plano. Responsibilities include:

Participates in Medication Management processes through collaborative teamwork, interaction, and sharing with administration, physicians, nurses, department managers and other team members.
Responsible for contributing to safe medication management where Pharmacy contributes to the process, including selection, procurement, storage, ordering, transcribing, preparing, dispensing and monitoring medications.
Directs the hiring process and makes recommendations to management and staff for making the department successful.
Sets goals and makes recommendations in a collaborative team approach to accomplish the organization's goals.
Maintains a focus on improving patient's outcomes while understanding operations related to supplies, materials, staff, equipment and other support tools needed for the success of the organization.

Qualifications include:

Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy required. Master's Degree/Doctorate Degree preferred.
Licensed by the Texas Board of Pharmacy.
Minimum 5-7 years of management experience in an acute care setting.
Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work in a detail-oriented environment while handling multiple priorities required.
Strong computer skills required. Experience with Meditech a plus.

Our current Director of Pharmacy is retiring this summer after being with our hospital for over 30 years. The position reports through Operations. The Pharmacy Department has approximately 42 FTEs consisting of a Manager, Clinical Coordinator, Evening Supervisor, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Techs.


 

Director of Cardiology/Cardio-Pulmonary – reports to CNO

Cardiology Duties:

The Director of Cardiology/Cardio Pulmonary is responsible for the direction, management and administration of the Unit. Maintains adherence to hospital policies, procedures and regulations. Participates in an interdisciplinary and inter-facility approach to achieving the mission, philosophy and goals of this facility. Monitors adherence and quality improvement to current standards of practice.
• Develops and coordinates the financial management for departments of direct responsibility.
• Directs department activities through supervisory personnel.
Establishes and maintains active involvement with appropriate medical staff departments and community groups to meet the goals and objectives of the organization.
• Demonstrates well-defined organizational and time management skills.
• Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding person, financial, medical or employment of patients, families, and employees of hospital.
• Applies concepts of customer relations and advocacy.
• Promotes positive relationships.
• Follows and enforces accepted safety practices for patients and by observing safety guidelines and safe work practices.
• Participates in safety instructional programs.
• Reports hazards and initiates appropriate action.
Cardio-Pulmonary duties:
Develops, implements, and controls the provision of therapeutic patient/resident care services for infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients/residents in accordance with the policies of the hospital and directives of the Medical Staff. Responsible for the administration of all cardiopulmonary procedures in accordance with physicians' orders; supervises all cardiopulmonary activities of the Cardiopulmonary Staff. See to the provision of the cardiopulmonary needs of the hospital and report these activities to the Medical Director and Vice President.
Experience:
Cardiology:
3+ years as Director of Cardiology for a for-profit acute care hospital. Must show potential ability for management of a Unit. Demonstrates skills in communication, conflict resolution and human relations. Exhibits a team approach. Knowledgeable of fiscal, general healthcare issues, trends, quality management and legal aspects of nursing practice and standards. Knowledge and understanding of the entire aging process. Possess ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public. Able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Requires good interpersonal skills and good communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to function effectively in fast-paced environment with multiple demands/deadlines. Position requires some overtime and ability to coordinate several activities simultaneously. Emotional maturity and ability to function effectively under stress. Able to read, write, follow instructions and document care given in English. Ability to plan and organize.

Cardio-Pulmonary:

Three years experience in a broad range of respiratory therapy and cardiographic modalities. Must demonstrate skills in communication and personnel and business management. Must demonstrate a broad knowledge of the field of respiratory therapy and noninvasive cardiology. Must be able to demonstrate an ability to instruct and communicate with patients/residents, fellow employees, and other personnel including physicians on a professional level. Must maintain competency to instruct and communicate with patients, residents, employees, and others on a professional basis. Speak and read English fluently. Must attain competency within the scope of job description within one year.

License/Education/Certification:

Cardiology:
• Graduate of an approved or accredited school of nursing.
• Certification in specialty area of practice preferred.
• BSN or healthcare related field preferred. Must have CPR and ACLS Certification.
• Current RN license
Cardio-Pulmonary:
• Must be a graduate of an AMA approved program for Respiratory Therapy.

Position Purpose:

The CVOR Physician Assistant provides care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include:

Assesses, plans and evaluates the care needs of the patient before, during and after a surgical procedure.

  • Responsible for pre-operative and post-operative rounds.
  • Required to 1st assist and harvest veins for CV cases when applicable.
  • Evaluate/prescribe medications and treatments as necessary.
  • Provides care to the patient undergoing surgical procedures.
  • Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients.
  • Carries out physician orders.
  • Administers prescribed medications, applies dressings, monitors vital signs.
  • Assists physician during procedures.
  • Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
  • Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
  • Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Education:
Graduate of an accredited Physicians Assistant Program.
Experience:

  • Previous CVOR preferred.
  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.

The Occupational Therapist plans, administers, and coordinates occupational therapy treatments to patients of various age groups in order to maximize their potential physical functioning under the direction of a physician. Contributes to the development of Occupational Therapy policies, setting of standards, and revision of procedures as needed. Works closely with family members to assure achievement of goals and continuity of care. Provides documentation of patient evaluations, progress, reassessments and modification of goals and treatments as needed. This position is under the direction of the Therapy Services Director and supervises Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants.

Predominantly inpatient or acute but would like someone who is willing to help out in outpatient as well.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Program.

Experience:

Two years of staff OT experience. Proficiency in written and verbal communication, proficiency with computerized documentation, and the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public.

Licensure/Certificates:

Licensed or eligible for license in the State of New Mexico.

Working Conditions:

Must participate within a team-centered approach toward patient care. Must display effective communication skills, critical thinking skills, and independent decision-making skills. 1. What dispensing software do they use? MediTech.....CHS is transitioning to new system 3rd/4th qtr next year; not sure if have determined which system
2. Do they have a Pharmacy Operations Manager or Clinical Coordinator? Neither; have a Lead Tech who is Inventory/Operations who does these functions exceptionally well................is Project manager for Pyxis conversion
3. Is the Director a working (how about staff or order entry) manager or mainly administrative? Current director does not do order entry; prior director did. Staffing will require NMBOP approved IV certification.
4. Do pharmacist make rounds with the treatment team? No, plans to place Pharmacist on unit (ICU) for limited number of hours Mon-Fri
5. Any special clinics ran by pharmacy (diabetes, immunization, Coumadin, etc)? No
6. Are they open to out of state candidates, provided they are eligible for NM state licensure? Yes

Current Pharmacist Staffing: 3 Pharmacists day shift (6:30 AM - 10 PM); night Pharmacist 9 PM to 7 AM
Current Technician Staffing: 3 Technicians support day shift (6:30 AM to 10:30 PM); Lead Tech (Monday - Friday) - Inventory/Operations and support of 3 Tech
shifts; no night Tech.

• Medical Records: Meditech is currently used housewide, a Pyxis conversion is forthcoming.
• The pharmacy has TPN service and they are implementing Clinimix soon
• The Pharmacy is USP 797 compliant
• All Pharmacists are IV certified (requirement) all but one Pharmacy Tech is IV certified (in process)
• The pharmacy is 24/7.
